Dalton Downs

Having only recently moved from the North Island to our farm in Marlborough Steve provided us with the specialist local resource management advice we needed to realise the full potential of our dairy property.

Catherine Tither relocated to Marlborough from the North Island after purchasing a dairy property in the Pelorus Valley. Their goal was to make the business more profitable and maximise the property’s potential.

With no experience or knowledge of the region’s resource management regulations, they called on Steve to provide advice regarding access to irrigation and storage water.

WilkesRM undertook a preliminary scoping exercise which showed that an alternate irrigation intake system was the economically viable option. To achieve this, WilkesRM applied for and obtained all necessary resource consents to allow Dalton Downs to undertake test pumping of the Pelorus River to assist in the irrigation intake design and ultimately to construct a new intake structure to provide irrigation water to 200 hectares of dairy pasture.

Catherine was thrilled with the result.

“Having only recently moved from the North Island to our farm in Marlborough, Steve provided us with the specialist local resource management advice we needed to realise the full potential of our dairy property,” she says.

“His local knowledge was invaluable for obtaining all the necessary resource consents within the tight timeframe – and he was a good sort to work with too.”
